Maine Black Bears Sled Hockey Program

Bruins will play in the Great Salt Cup Sled Hockey Tournament: The New England Bruins will take part in the Great Salt Cup Sled Hockey Tournament in Park City, Utah at the end of March. The tournament will be hosted by the National Ability Center and their sled hockey team, the NAC Golden Eagles. The NAC Golden Eagles had formerly been known as the Utah Grizzlies Sled Hockey Team until the team became part of the National Ability Center family of programs in the Spring of 2005. Park City is up in the mountains about a half hour east of Salt Lake City.

The tournament will begin on Thursday, March 30 and will end on Saturday, April 1. To date. the Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche, who are hoping to repay the Golden Eagles for beating them in their New Years Weekend tournament, have committed to attend with a few other teams expected to be there. The hope is to have at least six teams. Invitations have also been extended to the RIC Chicago Blackhawks, the Buffalo Sabres, the United Spinal Rangers, the Pennsylvania Center-Pedes, and the Sacramento Lightning Sled Hockey Team. The games will be played at the brand new Park City Ice Rink which is reported to be fully accessible.

The Bruins players that will be making the trip are: Aguinaldo Luis, Jeff Labbe, Kevin Hosier, Andy Moore, Danny Sousa, Happy Treantafel, Taylor Chace, Garrett Stephens, Peter Grosso, Craig Gray, Mike Geary and Brett Goodnow. Kip St. Germaine is still questionable, but likely. Doug Park and perhaps Tom Moulton will be leading the team.

The Bruins plan to fly out of Manchester, NH on Thursday, 3/30 at 10:15A on Southwest Airlines arriving in Salt Lake City at 5:35P with a stop in Baltimore. The team will stay in the National Ability Center Bunk House, which features fantastic accessibility and close proximity to the rink.  The return flight will leave Salt Lake City on Sunday, 4/2 at 1:35P arriving back in Manchester at 10:05P. The Bruins will rent 3 minivans for the trip to and from the airport and for local transportation.

Park City offers a number of recreational activities including 3 famous ski areas. Tournament attendees may be able to take part in the National Ability Center's Downhill Skiing Program at an estimated cost of $60, or tour other Olympic facilities between games.
