The Bruins were spurred out of hibernation in the second period by an Eagles team that was very aggressive in finishing their checks. Once the Bruins brought their characteristic balanced attack and strong defensive orientation into play, Utah got a taste of east coast hockey and found it not to be as pleasurable as eating lobster. Bruins forward, Taylor Chace drove home the first of two back-to-back goals at 7:49 in the period on assists by teammates Danny Sousa and Brett “The One True Jet” Goodnow. TC’s second goal, which turned out to be all the Bruins needed, came at 11:21 with the help of Peter Grosso and Sousa. Sousa added an unassisted goal of his own at 12:28 which further frustrated the Eagles. By the 3rd period, referee Ken Jemison had decided to keep his whistle in his pocket and it became clear that the penalty box was not going to be a factor for the remainder of the game. Despite receiving continued hard checks from the Eagles, the Bruins stayed with their more disciplined offensive strategy and built a solid defensive wall around their net, with goalie Jeff Labbe turning in an outstanding performance. Bruins defenseman Pete Grosso scored at 1:08 into the third on an assist from Chace and then again on an unassisted goal at 10:10. Final score: New England Bruins 5, NAC Golden Eagles 1.
