WOBURN, MA – Verizon Wireless is proud to announce its sponsorship of the
New England Bruins Sled Hockey Team for the 2004/2005 season.
Sled hockey is a version of ice hockey played by people with mobility
disabilities and injuries affecting their lower extremities. The game is
essentially the same as any "stand-up" ice hockey game with the major
difference being all the players sit on a sled, attached to two hockey skate
blades under the seat. There are currently over thirty competitive adult and
junior sled hockey teams operating throughout the US.
“Hockey is an institution in New England, and having a disability doesn't
curb that passion one bit,” said Bob Stott, Verizon Wireless regional
president. “The New England Bruins are competitive athletes who are also
setting a positive example in the community. We are proud to support them
and wish them great success this season."
The New England Bruins Sled Hockey Team is comprised of the best sled hockey
players in New England. The Bruins compete in several tournaments in Dallas,
Detroit, New York, and Westfield, MA each year and play exhibition games
with high school, college, police and fire department teams. They also
conduct several outreach clinics to develop excellence in sled hockey for
people with disabilities throughout New England. The New England Bruins Sled
Hockey Team is coached by former Boston Bruins great, Rick Middleton. To
