Bruins take first steps in filing for not-for-profit corporation status February 9, 2005 - Saugus, MA: The New England Bruins took the first step towards establishing themselves as a distinct 501c3 non-profit corporation Wednesday evening by appointing a Founding Board of Officers/Directors and agreeing upon the Organizational Charter and Articles of Incorporation. "We expect the entire process to take two to three months," says Bruins Secretary and Legal Counsel, Dave Dittmer. As soon as we receive notification of our acceptance as a domestic corporation domiciled in the State of Maine, we will petition the I.R.S. for designation as a 501c3 tax-exempt corporation." The Founding Board of Directors consists of Rick Middleton, President, Dale Wise, VP of Operations, Craig Gray, VP of Development, Kip St. Germaine, Treasurer, and Dave Dittmer, Secretary. At the first board meeting, three additional Regular Directors and One Director-at-Large will be appointed. They are Peter Grosso, Dan Sousa, Bob McGarry, and George "Happy" Treantafel. The Organizational Charter and Articles of Incorporation are available for review by contacting any of the corporate officers. This action is intended to simplify the revenue generation process for the Bruins. "Our development strategy will continue to rely on value-exchange-based cause marketing partnerships," explained Craig Gray, VP of Development. "We have been very careful to define our sponsorable assets and exchanges within the Attorney General's guidance for 501c3s. This new status will enable our partners to work directly with us regardless of whether their checks are written from their marketing budgets or from their corporate foundations. Up to this point, we have relied upon our good friends and associates at the New England Wheelchair Athletic Association to handle foundation-based partnerships. This will allow us to act more quickly and decisively." | ||||||||||||||||||
